This course is the first of a two part series that covers a range of advanced soft tissue techniques that can overcome many clinical limitations of massage techniques. The techniques can provide a more profound level of treatment by creating changes on a neuromuscular level and can be incorporated into a massage treatment for greater effect. They can also be used to provide a very safe and effective treatment in situations where massage is not appropriate.

  • Mel Cash, BS, MISRM

    Mel is recognized as one of the pioneers of massage over the last 25 years and has published several international textbooks on the subject. He has gained the most extensive clinical experience having worked with World class athletes and dancers (including the Royal Ballet in London and the Tokyo Ballet in Japan) as well as people with serious medical conditions. He is a passionate and inspiring teacher who has also presented workshops Internationally. He used to compete at a high amateur level in Marathons and Triathlons. He has written a number of books including Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy and Advanced Remedial Massage and Soft Tissue Therapy and is regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on the subject.

  1. Neuromuscular Technique

    1. Neuromuscular Technique

    In the first chapter of this course, Mel Cash describes the neuromuscular mechanism that can lead to muscle hyper-tonicity and trigger points. He will teach the participant to understand how deep pressure and friction techniques can have a positive effect on the neuromuscular system and trigger points. The participant will learn to apply deep techniques to affect neuromuscular change and reduce trigger points.

  2. Pin and Stretch Technique

    2. Pin and Stretch Technique

    Mel Cash describes the principles of how to apply Pin and Stretch technique by maintaining a manual lock into hypertonic tissue whilst applying a stretch to release it. The participant will learn to apply the techniques to all skeletal muscles using active and passive movements. The technique can be applied with the client on the treatment couch and also in standing or sitting positions.

Completion Requirements

If approved for CE credit in your discipline and state, a minimum score of 70% is required for OT/OTA, Nurse, LTCA, and RT. A minimum score of 80% is required for SW. No minimum score is required for other disciplines unless otherwise specified within the course.
